When a young Doug Organ needed a demo for his high school band but couldn't afford studio time,he took things into his own hands.
“Do you remember ADATS? It’s like an SVHS tape and they would record eight tracks digitally at quite low resolution. But they were reliable,” says Doug. “We would rent that and a mixer and make atrocious recordings.”
Through trial and error, he got better at engineering his own recordings, fine-tuning his abilities at the prestigious Banff Centre for the Arts, where he participated in a work/study program that had him recording and assisting with high-profile performers on a daily basis.
About 10 years ago, Doug finally took the plunge and opened Edmontone Studio, first in a space that no longer exists, and since 2008, in a fortified basement on 109th Street.
